“Coalition of the Willing” leaders to hold virtual meeting ahead of Zelenskiy’s U.S. visit

“Coalition of the Willing” leaders are set to meet via video conference on Sunday afternoon ahead of President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s visit to Washington on Monday, according to Reuters news agency.

Zelenskiy will fly to Washington under heavy U.S. pressure to agree a swift end to the war in Ukraine but determined to defend Kyiv’s interests – without sparking a second Oval Office bust-up with Donald Trump.

This comes after the Alaska talks failed to produce a ceasefire, with the U.S. leader saying on Saturday that he now wanted a rapid, full-fledged peace deal and that Kyiv should accept because “Russia is a very big power, and they’re not”.

Kyiv’s European allies welcomed Trump’s efforts but vowed to back Ukraine and tighten sanctions on Russia. European leaders might join Monday’s White House meeting as well, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said.
