China and Indonesia sign key cooperation deals to strengthen bilateral ties
BEIJING – Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto signed several cooperation agreements on Saturday, aimed at enhancing bilateral partnerships in areas such as water conservation, maritime resources, and mining.
This move comes ahead of a scheduled meeting between Indonesian officials and top Chinese companies, where investment agreements worth over $10 billion are expected to be signed.
During their meeting, President Xi expressed China’s willingness to cooperate with Indonesia on mutual interests, including poverty reduction, medicine, agriculture, and fisheries.
He emphasised the importance of supporting each other in safeguarding core interests and enhancing cooperation in digital economy, advanced manufacturing, and recycling.
After winning the Indonesian presidential election earlier this year, the former defence minister and special forces commander chose China as the first country to visit as president elect.
President Prabowo’s decision to accept President Xi’s invitation to visit China for the second time this year confirms Jakarta’s continued commitment to their strategic ties.
“Under the current complicated global situation, Indonesia hopes to further strengthen all-round strategic coordination with China, and become a closer comprehensive strategic partner with China,” CCTV reported, citing Prabowo as saying.
