ORAN, Algeria – The Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, held bilateral talks on Sunday, with the African Union Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security, Bankole Adeoye.
The meeting, held on the sidelines of the 11th High-Level Seminar on Peace and Security in Africa, centred on enhancing cooperation between Algeria and the African Union in the areas of peace and security. It also shed light on Algeria’s support for African institutions hosted within the country, including the African Union Counter Terrorism Centre and the African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation (Afripol).
In a statement to the press following the talks, Bankole Adeoye said that “the African continent faces significant challenges that require unity and collective action from African countries.” He also praised Algeria as a model in the fight against terrorism, noting its past success in overcoming this threat. Accordingly, he added that African countries currently facing similar challenges could draw valuable lessons from Algeria’s experience in this regard.
