ANNABA, April 14, 2026 – Pope Leo XIV arrived on Tuesday at Rabah Bitat International Airport in Annaba, on the second day of his official visit to Algeria, at the invitation of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
An official welcome was reserved for the Sovereign Pontiff by the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, along with the civil and military authorities of the wilaya of Annaba.
In turn, Pope Leo XIV greeted his hosts among the representatives of the civil and military authorities of the wilaya of Annaba, which is home to the Basilica of Saint Augustine, thanking them for their warm welcome.
At the VIP lounge of Rabah Bitat Airport, children of the city of Annaba gave a particularly warm reception to Algeria’s guest, in the presence of the Minister of Culture and Arts, Malika Bendouda.
