Annaba: Pope Leo XIV Visits Elderly Care Home at Saint Augustine Church

Annaba, April 14, 2026 – Pope Leo XIV visited on Tuesday an elderly care home at Saint Augustine Church in Annaba, marking his second stop during his visit to the province.

The Pope received a warm welcome from the staff of the care facility, who expressed their gratitude to the Algerian people for their generosity and support in helping meet the needs of those under their care, enabling them to continue their mission.

Pope Leo XIV also spent time listening to residents of the home from various nationalities.

To the sound of the hymn “Peace Be Upon You, O Land of My Ancestors,” residents of the Saint Augustine Church elderly home celebrated the arrival of the Pope as a message of peace from Algeria to the world.

In remarks on the occasion, the Pope expressed his joy at being in a place that “symbolizes love, solidarity, and fraternity,” noting that his presence “embodies the values of hope, despite the wars and injustices the world is witnessing.”

He also praised such humanitarian and solidarity initiatives that “reflect the true meaning of human coexistence.”

At the end of the visit, the administrators and residents of the Saint Augustine Church elderly care home presented Pope Leo XIV with symbolic gifts.
