Angolan President describes Algeria as “brotherly country and steadfast ally”

The President of the Republic of Angola, Joao Lourenço, highlighted on Tuesday Algeria’s role as a “brotherly country and a firm, steadfast ally” to his nation, recalling that Angola achieved independence and sovereignty thanks to the support provided by Algeria.

Delivering a speech during an extraordinary joint session of Parliament at the Palace of Nations in Club des Pins, in the presence of the Speaker of the People’s National Assembly (lower house of Parliament), Brahim Boughali, and government members, the Angolan President said that Algeria is “a brotherly country and a firm, steadfast ally.” He added, “We share all the values that have long served as a major pillar for the strong relations between our two countries.”

The Angolan President expressed his deep appreciation for all the aid Algeria has provided to his country.

He also noted the “shared historical legacy uniting the two countries,” affirming that “thanks to Algeria’s backing and support, Angola became an independent and sovereign country, and it is aware of the scale of the challenges it faces.”
