The Independent Authority for Elections (ANIE) in Algeria is expected to announce today, Sunday, the provisional results of the early presidential elections held yesterday before submitting them to the Constitutional Court for a final ruling that would highlight the definitive results and name the next president, who will lead the country for a five-year term.
According to the preliminary results released last night after polling stations closed at 8:00 PM local time, the voter turnout reached 48.03% within the Algerian territory and 19.57% among the Algerian diaspora.
Following ANIE’s announcement of the provisional results, the Constitutional Court will decide on the final results and announce the winner within a week, based on the votes received by independent candidate Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Movement of Society for Peace candidate Abdelali Hassani Cherif, and Socialist Forces Front candidate Youcef Aouchiche.
The elected president will take the oath of office, marking the start of a five-year term to implement the promised electoral program.
