Algeria’s Media Authority Condemns Surge in Misleading Coverage Targeting the Country

ALGIERS — The Algerian Independent Authority for Audiovisual Regulation (ANIRA) roundly condemned Sunday in a statement the increasing of misleading media discourse “marked by suspicious outbidding,” aimed at involving Algeria in unfounded analyses, urging national media outlets not to be drawn into “these disinformation campaigns and propagandist illusions.”

The ANIRA expressed “deep concern and strong disapproval” over the increasing spread of misleading media narratives, characterized by “suspicious exaggeration,” especially on various online platforms.

It noted that “false information and deceptive content are being circulated about regional and international issues, implicating Algeria in unfounded analyses and speculations, using rhetoric clearly tied to fourth- and fifth-generation warfare tactics, based on unverified assumptions without credible sources.”

Exercising its legal authority, the ANIRA firmly denounced “this artificial and malicious intimidation,” urging the public to resist “these manipulative narratives, which lack even basic professional standards and promote messages that threaten public peace, unsettle national sentiment, and serve foreign agendas known for exploiting rumors to weaken morale, undermine trust in State institutions, and create confusion among citizens.”
