Algeria’s Army General Chanegriha Receives AFRICOM Commander (MoD)

ALGIERS, April 28, 2026 – The Algerian Army General Saïd Chanegriha, Delegate Minister to the Minister of National Defense and Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army (PNA), received in audience on Tuesday at the PNA General Staff headquarters, Army General Dagvin Anderson, Commander of the United States Africa Command (US AFRICOM), the Ministry of National Defense (MoD) said in a statement.

“Army General Saïd Chanegriha, Delegate Minister to the Minister of National Defense and Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army, received in audience this Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at the headquarters of the People’s National Army General Staff, Army General Dagvin Anderson, Commander of the United States Africa Command (US AFRICOM),” the same source specified.

The reception ceremony began with the salute to the national flag, as well as the military honors presented to Army General Dagvin Anderson by a military formation representing the different Forces of the People’s National Army.

The meeting was attended by the Commander of the Land Forces, the Secretary General of the Ministry of National Defense, the Commanders of the Forces and the Republican Guard, the Chief of Staff Office at the Ministry of National Defense, Heads of Departments, the Army’s General Controller, central directors of the Ministry of National Defense and the PNA General Staff, as well as members of the American delegation.

During this meeting, “the two sides reviewed the state of military cooperation between the two countries and exchanged views on issues of common interest,” the statement added.

On this occasion, the Army General delivered an address in which he welcomed the AFRICOM Commander, stressing that his visit represents a new step in strengthening the process of bilateral cooperation.

“First of all, I would like to welcome you, as well as the delegation accompanying you, on the occasion of your visit to Algeria, which undoubtedly constitutes a new link in strengthening the process of bilateral cooperation, particularly following the signing in January 2025 of the memorandum of understanding in the field of military cooperation,” said the Army General.

“In this regard, our countries are working toward deepening our strategic dialogue, in order to promote our military cooperation through, in particular, the implementation of this memorandum of understanding, in all its dimensions and objectives, so as to establish the foundations of strong and sustainable cooperation, based on mutual respect and serving the interests of both countries,” he added.

The Army General stressed that “Algeria, mandated by the African Union, is working to strengthen the mechanisms of the common pan-African initiative aimed at pooling efforts to eradicate the phenomenon of terrorism and violent extremism in all its aspects.”

Thanks to this active and dynamic role, added Army General Chanegriha, “Algeria has been able to launch numerous initiatives at the continental level, by adopting a multidimensional security approach to combating terrorism, which is mainly based on activating an African financial fund dedicated to this objective, establishing an African list of individuals and entities involved in criminal activities, and developing an African arrest warrant.”

He added: “It is also worth mentioning the annual reports presented by Abdelmadjid Tebboune, President of the Republic, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defense, in his capacity as African Union Coordinator for the fight against terrorism and violent extremism.”

For his part, “Army General Dagvin Anderson expressed his satisfaction with his visit to Algeria and his aspiration to strengthen military cooperation relations,” the same source noted, adding that “he also welcomed the level of multidimensional coordination between the two sides and the contribution of the PNA to the establishment of security and peace in the region.”

At the end of the meeting, the two sides exchanged symbolic gifts, before the AFRICOM Commander signed the guestbook of the PNA General Staff, the MoD statement concluded.
