ALGIERS, April 28, 2026 – Members of the Algerian national wrestling team won seven medals (3 gold and 4 silver) on the first day of the African Under-17 Wrestling Championship, taking place in Egypt (April 26 to May 2).
The gold medals were won by Houssam Eddine Bouha (48 kg category), Boumaza Lyès (51 kg), and Boutarfaïa Houdaifa (71 kg) in Greco-Roman wrestling. The silver medals went to Benamar El Baraa (60 kg), Menasria Taha (92 kg), Bouchibi Bachir (65 kg), as well as Meriem Gharib (43 kg) in women’s wrestling.
The Algerian delegation is represented by 53 wrestlers, both male and female, across different age categories (under 17, under 20, and seniors), in freestyle wrestling, Greco-Roman wrestling, and women’s wrestling.
