Algerian President: We continue to fight corruption and have implemented changes in the justice system to restore citizens’ trust

ALGIERS – Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune reaffirmed on Sunday his commitment to continuing the fight against corruption and amending legislation to initiate the rebuilding of a state based on the rule of law and true democracy.

In his speech before both chambers of Parliament at the Palace of Nations in Algiers, President Tebboune reiterated that the objective of making changes in the justice system is to restore citizens’ trust in the state.

“We have made changes in the justice system to regain the people’s trust and establish the principle of separating money from politics, alongside combating corruption,” he said.

President Tebboune also announced the start of “a review of local authorities’ laws to begin rebuilding a state of law and true democracy.”

“We have overcome the challenges of this phase by fulfilling the people’s aspirations, restoring trust in state institutions, and embarking on a path of national development,” he said, adding that “municipal and provincial laws are the foundation of true democracy and the completion of the state’s institutional framework.”

The Algerian president emphasised that economic development will be achieved through a new development model focused on economic diversification and the liberation of initiative.

“The new economic model is already showing positive results, according to reports from the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and other international organisations.”
