Algerian President Announces Plan for 6 New Seawater Desalination Plants

ALGIERS – Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune confirmed that six additional seawater desalination plants are scheduled to be constructed, aiming to meet 72% of the country’s drinking water needs. He also announced another program focused on linking national dams to achieve integration.

During a regular meeting with representatives of the national press, the Algerian president stated that there is also a focus on groundwater, surface water, dams, and other sources, as the ongoing scarcity of rainfall has made these measures essential.

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune explained that independent Algeria has constructed dozens of dams, including those with capacities of 600 million and 700 million cubic meters. He also noted that desalination plants will be built along Algeria’s coast, with plans to establish a national institution for the construction and management of seawater desalination plants.

The Algerian president expressed his pride in the talents and efforts of those who contributed to the successful implementation of seawater desalination plants.

“I am very proud and couldn’t contain my emotions when I witnessed the enthusiasm of Algeria’s people and their commitment to the country’s challenges as Algeria enters a new phase,” he said.
