Algerian Parliament: Macron’s statements are a blatant attempt to tarnish the image of Algeria and its sovereign institutions

ALGIERS – The People’s National Assembly “strongly condemned” the “irresponsible” statements made by the French President, which it described as a blatant interference in Algeria’s internal affairs, according to Algeria Press Service (APS), citing a statement from the lower house of the Algerian Parliament.

The statement further noted that these comments “constitute blatant interference in Algeria’s internal affairs and an assault on its sovereignty and dignity regarding an issue currently under consideration under Algerian law,” adding that this is “a clear attempt to tarnish the image of Algeria and its sovereign institutions.”

“Algeria, which endured the most heinous violations during the French colonial period, firmly rejects any foreign interference or lectures on human rights and freedoms,” the statement said.

“Such actions are unacceptable to the Algerian people and will not alter its independent course. On the contrary, they will only strengthen its determination to safeguard its sovereignty and dignity,” the statement added, calling on the French authorities to respect the principles of international relations based on mutual respect.
