Algerian army units neutralized two armed foreign smugglers on Friday, during a security operation in the southern border area of In-Guezzam (6th Military Region), the Ministry of National Defense said Saturday.
“As part of the sustained efforts by People’s National Army (PNA) units to combat organized crime and smuggling, particularly along the border, and through the effective use of intelligence, combined PNA detachments neutralized two armed foreign smugglers on May 1, 2026,” the ministry said.
The operation, “conducted in the In Guezzam operational sector within the 6th Military Region, resulted in the recovery of two Kalashnikov-type submachine guns, two magazines, and a quantity of ammunition.”
The Ministry of National Defense said these operational results, achieved as part of the fight against organized crime and smuggling, underscored the “constant vigilance and operational readiness of the PNA in securing the nations’ borders.”
