Algeria, Uzbekistan Move to Boost Trade Ties, Explore Preferential Agreement

The Algerian Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, Kamel Rezig, held talks with the Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Algeria, Mansurbek Kilichev, on ways to strengthen economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, according to a ministry statement released on Wednesday.

The statement noted that the meeting, held on Tuesday at the ministry’s headquarters, provided an opportunity to discuss mechanisms for developing bilateral trade exchanges, with both sides emphasizing the importance of intensifying joint efforts to increase trade volume and make better use of the economic potential available in both countries.

The discussions also addressed plans to organize a dedicated exhibition of Algerian products in Uzbekistan, aimed at promoting national goods and opening new markets for Algerian economic operators.

Pertaining to this, the two sides agreed to work toward establishing a joint business council bringing together economic actors from both countries, with a view to strengthening direct communication between businesspeople and developing investment partnerships.

They further explored the possibility of concluding a preferential trade agreement that would grant mutual advantages and help facilitate trade exchanges while strengthening economic cooperation between Algeria and Uzbekistan, according to the source.
