Algeria unveils first national artificial intelligence strategy

ALGIERS – Algerian Minister of Knowledge Economy, Startups, and Microenterprises, Nourredine Ouadah, announced on Saturday that the country is collaborating with both local and international experts to develop AI-driven startups with global potential. This effort leverages Algeria’s full capabilities, particularly its academic resources, emphasising that the next goal is to integrate AI technology across all sectors.
The Algerian minister’s statement was made on the sidelines of his supervision of the presentation of the first version of the national artificial intelligence strategy during a seminar held as part of the third edition of the African Startup Conference. Minister Zahi described the initiative as a significant step toward aligning with advanced nations in the field of artificial intelligence, which has already impacted numerous sectors, stressing the importance of keeping pace with this development.
The national AI strategy was presented by Professor Marouane Dabbah, Chairman of the Algerian AI Scientific Council. He highlighted that the strategy aims to strengthen the country’s knowledge economy, accelerate the startup ecosystem, and improve daily life for citizens through AI technology. Moreover, this strategy is based on six key pillars focusing on research and the support of emerging enterprises.
The third edition of the African Startup Conference, held over three days at the Algiers International Conference Centre under the theme “Reimagining Africa Through Artificial Intelligence,” will conclude this evening, with broad participation from various African countries.
