Algeria Showcases Urban Development Strategy at NAM Parliamentary Conference in Istanbul

The Speaker of the Algerian People’s National Assembly (Lower House of Parliament), Brahim Boughali, presented on Wednesday in Istanbul (Turkiye) Algeria’s experience in the field of urban development, based on a comprehensive strategic vision under the leadership of the country’s highest authorities, according to a statement from the People’s National Assembly.

In a speech delivered during the 5th Conference of the Parliamentary Network (PN) of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), held on the sidelines of the 152nd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) General Assembly, under the theme “The role of parliaments in ensuring resilient urban development in the face of climate change in NAM countries,” Boughali outlined “Algeria’s experience in urban development.” Pertaining to this, Boughali stated that this experience is grounded in “a comprehensive strategic vision led by the country’s highest authorities, emphasizing the achievement of a balance between environmental and socio-economic dimensions,” noting that the Algerian approach in this regard “stems from a deep conviction in the need to achieve genuine climate justice.”

In this regard, he highlighted “initiatives launched by Algeria at the regional level, notably the project to create an African civil force to respond to natural disasters, ensuring a collective and effective response, as well as energy interconnection projects with the Sahel countries, the rehabilitation of the Green Dam and the development of agricultural land, thereby contributing to strengthening food security and sustainability.” On the sidelines of the 152nd IPU General Assembly, Boughali also met with the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana, Hon Alban Kingsford Bagbin, and the President of the Senate of the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire, Kandia Camara.
