Algeria’s Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, met Thursday in Doha with Senegal’s Minister of Energy, Petroleum, and Mines, Birame Souleye Diop, to discuss investment opportunities and bilateral cooperation in the hydrocarbons and mining sectors, the Algerian ministry said in a statement.

Held on the sidelines of the 27th Ministerial Meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), the meeting was attended by Algeria’s ambassador to Qatar and senior officials from both countries.

The two ministers reviewed the state of cooperation between Algeria and Senegal and ways to strengthen it, praising the strong friendship between the two nations and their shared political will to build a strategic, multidimensional partnership.

Talks focused on investment and cooperation opportunities across the energy value chain, particularly in hydrocarbon exploration, development, and petrochemicals, as well as enhancing the added value of natural resources.

They also discussed training and knowledge exchange, notably between the Algerian Petroleum Institute (IAP) and Senegal’s National Institute of Petroleum and Gas (INPG), and stressed the importance of mutual visits between energy and mining companies to identify concrete partnership projects.

Minister Arkab emphasized the importance of African cooperation within the African Petroleum Producers Organization (APPO) to ensure effective resource use, enhance energy security, and attract investment while meeting the challenges of the energy transition.

Minister Diop, for his part, expressed Senegal’s strong interest in benefiting from Algeria’s leading experience in exploration, energy transition, and training, highlighting the expertise of Algerian professionals and companies, especially Sonatrach, the statement concluded.
