Algeria: Minister Arkab holds talks with Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources

KUWAIT CITY – Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energy, Mohamed Arkab, held talks on Sunday with the Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Ibrahim Ali Badawi, ahead of the 113th meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) held in the Kuwaiti capital, according to a statement from the Algerian Ministry of Energy and Mines.

The meeting focused on the “strong” bilateral cooperation, and explored opportunities for collaboration and investment between the two countries and ways to further strengthen the partnership, particularly in energy, mining, and renewable energy, the statement said.

Both parties emphasised the significant investment and partnership opportunities in the hydrocarbons sector, especially in exploration and research, field development and exploitation, refining, petrochemicals, liquefied natural gas (LNG) marketing and distribution, as well as in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) fuel and hydrogen development, the statement added.

In this regard, Minister Arkab encouraged Egyptian companies to take the available investment and partnership opportunities in these sectors and to capitalise on the benefits offered by the new hydrocarbons law.

According to the statement, the two ministers highlighted the significant potential for cooperation in the mining sector, particularly in phosphate processing industries, the production of phosphate fertilisers, and the exchange of expertise and information in these areas.

Ultimately, the Egyptian minister expressed his satisfaction with the “strong relations between the two countries and the growing bilateral cooperation, especially in energy, mining, and renewable energy, in line with the outcomes of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s official visit to Egypt,” said the source, adding that both sides also reiterated their support for the ongoing dialogue within the framework of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum and the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries.
