Algeria Launches Preferential Trade Talks with Türkiye

Algerian Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion Kamel Rezig on Thursday hailed the integration of interests and shared vision for development between Algeria and Türkiye.
Speaking during the Algerian-Turkish Business Forum, which he co-chaired with his Turkish counterpart, Omer Bolat, the Minister highlighted the “unity of vision on development issues” and the “deep-rooted historical ties” biding the two brotherly nations.
Rezig noted that bilateral relations “have reached an advanced stage of maturity, bolstered by a strong political will to build an integrated and sustainable economic partnership based on diversifying areas of economic cooperation.” On the volume of bilateral trade, he noted that it “reflects the solid economic foundations and the promising potential for a balanced partnership moving toward a more profound and qualitative phase, centred on intensifying industrial cooperation and technology transfer.” The minister further explained that economic indicators between the two countries show an “upward trend,” emphasising that the current ambition of both sides is to “attain the highest levels of economic integration and partnership.” Regarding the forum itself, he underscored its “immense significance” as a platform embodying a “tangible commitment to translating bilateral projects into concrete results,” and called on economic operators from both countries to “seize all available opportunities,” reaffirming that Algeria considers Türkiye a “distinguished economic partner.” For his part, the Turkish Minister of Trade lauded the robust bilateral relationship, describing it as a reflection of the strong will shared by President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
He further noted that Algeria is “a key partner for Türkiye in Africa outside the hydrocarbons sector,” and that 2026 is witnessing “an acceleration in the pace of trade between the two countries.” The forum was held as part of the official visit of President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune to Türkiye, during which he will co-chair, alongside President Erdogan, the inaugural session of the Algeria-Türkiye High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council.
