Algeria Launches Auto Plastics Plant in Tissemsilt to Boost Local Production

Algeria’s prime minister on Wednesday launched a project to build a plastics components and accessories plant for the automotive sector in Tissemsilt, with production scheduled to begin in September, as part of efforts to expand local manufacturing and cut imports.

The facility, operated by General Plastic Injection (GPI), is located in Khemisti in the Sidi Mansour industrial zone. It is aimed at supplying the domestic market with plastic parts for the automotive industry and increasing local integration rates.

The project is expected to reduce reliance on imported components by offering locally produced alternatives, while supporting industrial value chains and encouraging investment in spare parts manufacturing.

It is also set to contribute to job creation in the region, with positions for engineers, technicians and workers, and to support skills development through the localisation of industrial know-how.

During the visit, the prime minister reviewed the plant’s production stages and capacities and oversaw the signing of agreements related to the development of the automotive components industry, including industrial partnerships, technology transfer and higher local integration.

The visit forms part of a broader policy to revive stalled industrial projects and integrate them into the national economy to support growth and diversification.
