Algeria Demands Accountability for Zionist Aggression in the Middle East

In a recent United Nations Security Council session, Algeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Amar Bendjama, addressed the escalating crisis in the Middle East, underscoring the urgent need for an international response to the situation. Expressing Algeria’s deep concerns, Bendjama highlighted the growing consequences of the zionist aggression against Gaza and its impact on regional stability. He stated, “Since the start of our term on the Security Council, we have warned about the risk of the Israeli aggression against Gaza spreading across the Middle East. Unfortunately, this risk has become a reality.”

Bendjama voiced frustration at some Council members’ reluctance to view this crisis as a threat to global peace, emphasizing that the zionist attacks constitute a clear breach of international peace and security. He insisted that the Council must take immediate steps to restore stability, warning of the “serious and foreseeable” global implications if this issue is left unaddressed.

Algeria’s representative went on to strongly condemn recent zionist strikes on the Islamic Republic of Iran, extending Algeria’s solidarity with Iran and denouncing these actions as violations of Iran’s sovereignty and a breach of international law. He stressed that, “the international community has a duty to curb the Israeli occupation and stop its continued escalation, which has brought the Middle East into an endless cycle of instability.” Bendjama reiterated the need for all nations to adhere to UN principles, criticizing double standards in applying international law, which he argued undermines the Council’s credibility and global legal order.

In his appeal, Bendjama underscored that the ongoing crises in the Middle East are deeply interconnected and primarily rooted in the longstanding the zionist occupation of Arab lands. He warned against sidelining the Palestinian struggle and stressed that achieving a lasting peace requires an end to the occupation and the fulfillment of Palestinian rights. To this end, he called on the Security Council to impose an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon and to support the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Bendjama’s address to the UN highlights Algeria’s consistent stance on the Middle East: peace can only be achieved through accountability, respect for international law, and the protection of all nations’ sovereignty. The crisis, he argued, must not be allowed to deepen further, as the costs will extend beyond the region, impacting global stability and undermining the values upon which the UN was founded.
