African Union Commission Chair Calls on International Community to Lift Sanctions on Guinea

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, called on the international community to assess the situation in Guinea and consider lifting the sanctions imposed on the country, in order to create suitable conditions for implementing the roadmap aimed at rebuilding and modernizing the state in a way that serves the Guinean people.
In a statement marking the victory of Guinea’s elected president, Mamadi Doumbouya, Youssouf reaffirmed his full commitment, as well as that of the African Union, to continue supporting Guinea in its swift return to constitutional order. He emphasized the importance of consolidating democracy, the rule of law, national unity, peace, and stability as essential pillars for achieving sustainable development.
Guinea’s Supreme Court confirmed on Sunday the victory of independent candidate Mamadi Doumbouya in the first round of the presidential election held on December 28. Doumbouya secured 4,594,262 votes, representing 86.72 percent of the valid ballots cast.
