LONDON – Britain’s opposition Conservatives have begun the process of choosing a new leader to replace former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
Six people have received enough support to be nominated as candidates by Monday’s deadline, the party said.
The party’s elected lawmakers will be reduced to four candidates at a ballot on Sept. 4th, with another ballot to be held on Oct. 9th and 10th to whittle it down to the final two. Sunak will remain as acting leader until one of them is elected on Nov 2nd.
The nominated candidates are as follows : Kemi Badnoch, James Cleverly, Robert Jenrick, Priti Patel, Mel Stride, and Tom Tugendhat.
