Zionist Attacks in Lebanon Kill 27 Journalists Amid Escalating Targeting of Media Workers

Lebanon’s media community is facing an unprecedented escalation in violence, as at least 27 journalists have been killed in Zionist attacks since March 2, alongside numerous others injured, according to the Lebanese Press Syndicate Editors.

In a strongly worded statement issued Thursday, the syndicate condemned the latest attack targeting a group of journalists in the southern town of Tayri on Wednesday. The strike resulted in the killing of reporter Amal Khalil and left her colleague Zeinab Faraj wounded. The syndicate noted that Khalil had previously received explicit death threats from the Zionist forces, underscoring a pattern of deliberate targeting of media professionals.

“With her killing, the number of journalists and media workers killed has risen to 27, in addition to a large number of injured,” the statement said, warning that journalists in Lebanon are operating under increasingly lethal conditions.

The syndicate called on the Federation of Arab Journalists to coordinate efforts with international and regional press organizations to provide urgent support to Lebanese journalists, particularly in the face of “deliberate Israeli attacks” against media personnel. It further urged journalists working in conflict zones across Lebanon to exercise extreme caution, avoid high-risk areas, and coordinate closely with the Lebanese army, UNIFIL forces, the Lebanese Red Cross, and local rescue teams.

The statement also accused the Zionist entity of exceeding “all limits” in its operations against Lebanese civilians, especially journalists, and called on the Lebanese government to take immediate legal and diplomatic action at international forums to hold the Zionist entity accountable.

According to Lebanon’s state news agency NNA, during Wednesday’s attack Zionist forces also blocked access for the Red Cross and Lebanese army units attempting to reach the wounded journalists, while striking a road linking Tayri and Haddatha in an apparent effort to impede rescue operations.

Since March 2, Zionist attacks across Lebanon have reportedly killed 2,475 people, injured 7,696, and displaced more than 1.6 million civilians, according to official figures.

A 10-day ceasefire announced by the United States on April 16 is set to expire on Sunday, amid reports that it has been violated daily by Zionist forces, further deepening concerns over the collapse of fragile de-escalation efforts in the region.
