US Envoy Calls for End to Tribal Violence in Syria

The US special envoy to Syria on Sunday urged all warring groups in Syria to immediately cease hostilities and commit to peace.
“President (Donald) Trump’s decision to lift sanctions was a principled step, offering the Syrian people a chance to move beyond years of unimaginable suffering and atrocities,” Tom Barrack said in a statement on X.
“All factions must immediately lay down their arms, cease hostilities, and abandon cycles of tribal vengeance,” he said, adding that “Syria stands at a critical juncture—peace and dialogue must prevail—and prevail now.”
Residents reported calm in Syria’s Suwayda on Sunday after the Syrian government declared that Bedouin fighters had withdrawn from the predominantly Druze city, according to Reuters news agency.
This comes a day after the Syrian presidency announced a comprehensive and immediate ceasefire following days of unrest in the southern province, calling on all parties “to fully comply with this decision, immediately halt all combat operations in all areas, ensure the protection of civilians, and guarantee the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid.”
