UNSC to Hold Emergency Meeting on Gaza City Occupation Plans

The United Nations Security Council is set to hold a rare weekend session to discuss the occupation’s plan to seize Gaza City and forcibly displace nearly a million Palestinians.

Sunday’s emergency session, originally scheduled for Saturday, is expected to convene at 10 a.m. local time. No reason was given for the change.

Following the occupying authorities’ decision to occupy Gaza City, the meeting has been endorsed by all members of the Security Council except Panama and the US.

Additionally, Türkiye is set to convene an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to address “Israel’s” plan to fully occupy Gaza.

“As the Chair of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers, we have decided to call the OIC to a meeting,” Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan told reporters at a joint press conference with his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty in El Alamein.

The OIC urged world powers and the United Nations Security Council to “assume their legal and humanitarian responsibilities and to take urgent action to stop” the Zionist occupation’s Gaza City plan, while ensuring immediate accountability for the “Israeli violations of international law.”

In the meantime, many cities and capitals worldwide witnessed mass demonstrations on Saturday condemning the occupation’s genocidal war on the Gaza Strip.

Participants raised Palestinian flags and carried banners denouncing the crimes committed by the occupation against the Palestinian people. They also called for an immediate ceasefire and the delivery of humanitarian aid to the besieged enclave.
