UNRWA: Hunger deepens in besieged Gaza as food supplies run out
The UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) warned on Sunday that food stocks have run out in the war-torn Gaza Strip, deepening hunger in the besieged enclave, while the Zionist occupation continues its genocidal war, claiming the lives of nearly 51,500 people.
“People, including many children, are hoping to get some food to survive during a warm meal distribution by charitable organizations,” the agency said, adding that its flour supplies have been depleted.
It further explained that currently, “nearly 3,000 UNRWA trucks of lifesaving aid are ready to enter Gaza,” but the occupation continues to block the entry of these aid shipments.
UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini said that the occupation “continues to block the entry of food and other basics,” as a “politically motivated starvation”.
Separately, at least 51 people were martyred and 115 others were injured in occupation’s attacks in the last 24 hours, the Gaza health ministry said in a statement.
According to the ministry, over 51,495 Palestinians have been confirmed killed and 117,524 wounded in the genocidal war committed by the Zionist occupation on Gaza since October 2023. Meanwhile, the Gaza Government Media Office updated its death toll to more than 61,700, saying thousands of people missing under the rubble are presumed dead.
