UN Rights Chief : Any Discussion to End the Moscow-Kyiv War “Must Include” Ukrainians

GENEVA – UN human rights chief Volker Turk on Monday warned that any peace talks between the US and Russia must include Ukraine, stressing that a lasting solution requires adherence to international law. Speaking at the Human Rights Council, he criticized the ongoing civilian suffering caused by Russia’s invasion.
Turk noted that US President Donald Trump’s negotiations with Russia have sidelined Ukraine and alarmed European leaders, who question whether such talks could lead to a sustainable peace. He also highlighted a 30% rise in civilian casualties between 2023 and 2024 due to intensified Russian attacks.
With relentless bombardments causing widespread fear and destruction, Turk called the situation “dire” and urged that any resolution prioritize Ukraine’s rights and security.
