UN: Algeria Encourages Women in Research and Innovation (Minister)

ALGIERS, March 13, 2025 – Algerian Minister of National Solidarity, Family, and Women’s Affairs, Soraya Mouloudji, stated on Thursday in New York that Algeria “supports and encourages women in the fields of research and innovation” and is actively working to “promote the digitalization sector and new technologies,” as outlined in a ministry statement.

During her participation in a parallel event organized by the Arab League, in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Development of the Sultanate of Oman, titled “Arab Women Towards Creativity and Innovation: The Era of the Industrial Revolution,” Mouloudji emphasized Algeria’s commitment to advancing women in research and innovation. She noted that the country is dedicated to promoting the digitalization sector, accelerating the digital transition, and fostering the development of startups.

In this context, she highlighted the “particular interest” shown by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune in empowering women and strengthening their rights through the establishment of mechanisms that facilitate women’s activities and initiatives, particularly in creativity and innovation.

The minister pointed out the “high success rates recorded each year among girls in the Baccalaureate exam,” noting that these results reflect “the significant number of female students enrolled in universities and institutes, which exceeds 65%.”

She further added that “graduates from specialized schools in sciences and technology, including national higher schools of artificial intelligence, mathematics, and computer science, represent 79% of total graduates.” This achievement, she stated, signifies “a substantial advancement toward parity in various fields of higher education and scientific research, in line with the ongoing industrial revolution.”

Additionally, Mouloudji emphasized efforts to connect female students with the job market by providing startup incubators designed to assist and support them through professional training and guidance.

She asserted that current technological advancements have “a noticeable impact on economic systems, particularly regarding investment opportunities arising from increased productivity and competitiveness levels, the development of workforce skills, and the widespread adoption of more effective and sustainable production methods.” She estimated that these developments will lead to “a significant improvement in income levels and quality of life.”
