Sudan: UNSC Sanctions Four RSF Members

The UN Security Council’s Sudan Sanctions Committee, set up under UN Resolution 1591 of 2005, announced that four members of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have been added to the sanctions list, subjecting them to measures imposed under Chapter Seven of the UN Charter.

A statement issued by the Committee on Wednesday said that the new listing “includes Gedo Hamdan Ahmed, a senior commander in North Darfur, Abdul Rahim Hamdan Daglo, deputy commander of the RSF, as well as Al-Fateh Abdullah Idris, and Tijani Ibrahim Moussa Mohamed.

The statement noted that the listed individuals are subject to asset freezes and travel bans under the Sudan sanctions regime established by Resolution 1591, which targets individuals and entities that undermine peace and stability or commit serious violations.

The committee confirmed that “narrative summaries of the reasons for listing’ have been published on its website,” and that the Security Council’s consolidated list has been updated to “reflect the new changes,” urging member states to implement the stipulated measures in compliance with the Council’s resolutions.

This decision is part of the Security Council’s ongoing monitoring of the situation in Sudan and its efforts to support stability, protect civilians and promote opportunities for a peaceful resolution.
