Severe Weather in Northern Italy Claims Three Lives

Severe weather conditions have led to the deaths of three individuals in northern Italy, as reported by firefighters on Friday.
“Two people who had been missing due to the adverse weather in northern Italy were found deceased,” following the discovery of a nonagenarian in his flooded home in Piedmont. This brings the death toll to three, according to firefighters.
The bodies of a 64-year-old man and his 33-year-old son, whose car was swept away by a torrent, were discovered on Friday morning near Vicenza in the Veneto region, the same source confirmed.
Northern Italy experienced heavy rainfall on Thursday, which transitioned to snow at higher elevations, resulting in numerous road closures due to landslides and extensive flooding.
Dozens of individuals were evacuated from inundated areas. In the Aosta Valley, approximately 5,000 families lost electricity on Thursday evening, according to the local power grid operator.
A month prior, central Italy also faced severe weather. In Tuscany, many residents were evacuated, and military personnel were deployed in Pisa to place sandbags along the banks of the Arno River, which flows through the city before reaching the sea.
The neighboring region of Emilia-Romagna also endured these adverse weather conditions, though they were less severe than those experienced in May 2023, which resulted in 17 fatalities and caused billions of euros in damages.
