Seminar in Estonia Denounces Moroccan Propaganda, Reaffirms Western Sahara’s Right to Decolonization

A seminar held at Tallinn University in Estonia highlighted the international implications of the Western Saharan cause and the challenge of countering Moroccan propaganda, emphasizing the necessity of re-evaluating historical narratives that justify colonization and advocated for reading history through the lens of decolonization in Western Sahara.

The representative of the Polisario Front to the Baltic States, Hadi Kentawi, participated in the seminar held Tuesday under the title “Decolonization in Western Sahara,” alongside Dr. Moara Assis Crivelente from the University of Coimbra in Portugal and Dr. Benjamin Klas, Professor of International Relations at Tallinn University.

Speakers affirmed that critical studies condemn the persistence of colonialism in Western Sahara, drawing parallels with Palestine. They identified the erosion of the right to self-determination as a symptom of neo-colonialism, with settler colonialism cited as one of its most severe consequences.

During his intervention, the Sahrawi diplomat reaffirmed that the Sahrawi people are the “sole party entitled to express their inalienable right to self-determination and independence.” He renewed the Polisario Front’s call to the UN Security Council to enable the MINURSO mission to fully implement its mandate and reach a peaceful, just, and lasting solution based on the Sahrawi people’s free and democratic exercise of their right to self-determination.
