President Tebboune: Empowering Youth Political Participation Is a National Strategic Priority

ALGIERS – Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune affirmed on Monday that promoting political participation among youth has been one of the key strategic priorities and pillars of the political and constitutional reforms launched since 2019.

In a speech delivered on his behalf by Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui at the National Summit on Youth and Political Participation, held at the International Conference Center in Algiers, President Tebboune stressed that numerous initiatives have been launched to this end. These include increasing youth representation in various government institutions and advisory bodies, removing barriers hindering their political engagement, and renewing national and local elected councils—leading to the emergence of a young, forward-thinking political elite free from past practices and deviations.

The President also highlighted the establishment of the High Council for Youth as a constitutional advisory body dedicated to addressing youth-related issues across various sectors. This council has made significant strides in promoting dialogue and building bridges between young people and state institutions. He also pointed to the creation of a dedicated Ministry of Youth to meet the aspirations of the younger generation and support their development.

President Tebboune noted that the progress made in youth political engagement is encouraging but requires sustained efforts to fully empower a new generation capable of effectively using its potential to participate in public affairs at all levels. He emphasized that state institutions must respond to this growing momentum with openness, ensuring the active involvement of dynamic social forces in all phases of public policy—formulation, implementation, and evaluation.

He concluded by calling on all advisory bodies to activate dialogue platforms and intensify communication with youth representatives, particularly elected officials, to deepen discussions on national issues and contribute to shaping the future of Algeria.
