PM Highlights Importance of Economic Opportunities in North Africa Region

Algerian Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb highlighted Thursday in Algiers the importance of economic opportunities in the North Africa region and its role in linking Europe, Africa and Mediterranean Basin countries as part of regional integration.

Ghrieb said during his chairing of the opening ceremony of a high-level conference titled “North Africa: Connecting Continents and Enhancing Opportunities,” that the theme of this meeting “reflects the hopes and promising opportunities abundant in the North Africa region, as well as the strategic vision recognizing North Africa’s historical and strategic role as a pivotal link between Africa and Europe, and between the Mediterranean Basin and Africa.” He added that the North Africa region has historically served as “a space for the movement of people and goods, and a meeting ground for the exchange of ideas and cultural dialogue, and today we are called upon to bolster this identity and modernize it to face current challenges.”

The PM also commended the existing partnership between the Bank of Algeria and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to boost global economic and financial stability, advance sustainable development, and consolidate international economic cooperation.

The conference is being held at Abdellatif Rahal International Conference Center.

It is taking place in the presence of senior state officials and government members, alongside Acting Governor of Bank of Algeria Mouatassem Boudiaf, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, IMF Middle East and Central Asia Department Director Jihad Azour, and Italian Minister of Environment and Energy Security Gilberto Pichetto Fratin.
