Over 200 martyrs in renewed Zionist strikes amid resumed ceasefire talks

GAZA – The Zionist occupation’s strikes in the Gaza Strip have resulted in more than 200 martyrs in the past three days, while mediators start new ceasefire talks in Qatar to end the 15-month-old genocidal war on Gaza.

On Saturday, the Zionist occupation forces committed four massacres, resulting in 59 martyrs and 273 injured, according to Gaza health authorities.

Separately, Qatari and Egyptian mediators, along with the U.S. administration under President Joe Biden, are making a renewed push to secure a ceasefire in Gaza before U.S. President-elect Donald Trump takes office on January 20.

According to Hebrew media reports, the Zionist prime minister has called for an urgent discussion on Sunday evening in response to developments in the ongoing negotiations.

In parallel, the U.S. administration under President Joe Biden has notified Congress of a proposed $8 billion arms sale to the Zionist occupation, according to two U.S. officials. This comes as Washington continues to support the occupation’s genocide in Gaza, which has resulted in the martyrdom of tens of thousands.

The deal would need approval from the House of Representatives and Senate committees and includes munitions for fighter jets and attack helicopters as well as artillery shells. The package also includes small-diameter bombs and warheads, according to the sources.

Besides, the package contains AIM-120C-8 air-to-air missiles to defend against drones and other airborne threats, 155mm artillery shells, Hellfire AGM-114 missiles, and $6.75 billion in other bombs and guidance systems, one of the U.S. officials said.

The State Department did not respond to a request for comment.

For months, protesters have demanded an arms embargo against “Israel,” but U.S. policy has remained unchanged. In August, the United States approved the sale of $20 billion in fighter jets and other military equipment to the “Israeli” occupation.

The Zionist occupation’s genocidal war on Gaza has resulted in at least 45,658 Palestinian martyrs and 108,583 wounded since October 7, 2023.
