
ALGIERS – Algerian President, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and Minister of Defense, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, chaired a Cabinet meeting on Sunday that covered several key topics, including the progress of the (Gara Djebilet – Bechar) railway project, preliminary studies for new railway lines (Laghouat – Tamanrasset) and (El Meniaa – Timimoun – Adrar), as well as the potential import of livestock for the upcoming Eid al-Adha.
After the Prime Minister’s presentation on the government’s activities over the past two weeks and the ministers’ discussions on proposed laws and reports, the Algerian President issued the following directives and instructions:
Regarding the digital interconnection of national tax data with national database:
– The President ordered accelerated progress in linking national tax data to the digital database to eliminate human intervention in data management.
– This will simplify processes for investors and ensure transparency in tax collection, monitoring, and adjustments through a fully electronic system.
On importing livestock for Eid al-Adha:
– The President instructed the Minister of Agriculture to prepare a specifications document to launch international consultation with countries having supply capacity, to import up to one million heads of livestock in anticipation of Eid al-Adha.
– The document should include price limits.
– The state will handle the imports through its specialised agencies.
– The sale of sacrificial animals will be organized through public cooperatives in various regions in coordination with authorized bodies and institutions.
– Sales may also be organized through social services at public institutions, with those institutions managing distribution and coordination with social partners.
On the progress of the railway projects:
– The Algerian President ordered the immediate implementation of the railway project linking Laghouat to Tamanrasset, as well as the El Menia – Timimoun – Adrar line, recognising their strategic significance for the national economy and their social impact. These projects are part of Algeria’s pioneering development trajectory, with far-reaching national, continental, and global implications.
On the marble industry:
– The Algerian President ordered the organization of this ancient and strategic sector and cooperation with professional international partners and industry leaders.
– To support domestic production, the President ordered a ban on the import of ready-made marble slabs and called for new investments and reforms in the industry.
– The President encouraged sector officials to strategically increase investments, recognising the sector’s potential as a significant source of foreign currency and a means of providing employment for young people.
On vocational training (February 2025):
– The Algerian President emphasised that the sector is increasingly attracting young people, with the Ministry implementing a new training approach that meets market demand in strategic areas.
– He instructed further training for youth in the agricultural sector, particularly in livestock breeding for family production, tree planting, and flower gardening, while incorporating modern scientific technologies.
– The President also ordered the organization of a national exhibition for small livestock breeders, in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture.
Before concluding, the Cabinet approved a presidential decree ratifying an agreement between Algeria and Slovenia, granting mutual exemption from short-stay visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and mission passports.
