ALGIERS, April 29, 2026 – Algeria’s Minister of Culture and Arts, Malika Bendouda, on Wednesday inaugurated the first edition of the Africain Mediterranean Symposiums of Thought at the Abdelatif Rahal International Conference Center in Algiers, under the patronage of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
The opening ceremony was attended by Constitutional Court President Leïla Aslaoui, Presidential Adviser in charge of diplomatic affairs Amar Abba, as well as national and international cultural figures.
Running until April 30, the event is dedicated to the theme “Augustine, an Algerian, African and Mediterranean Emanation,” highlighting the legacy and intellectual contribution of Saint Augustine, and aims to reinforce Algeria’s position as a civilizational bridge between Africa and the Mediterranean region.
The event seeks to create a space for dialogue and exchange between intellectuals and researchers from Africa and the Mediterranean basin, at a time marked by major civilizational and technological shifts, where intercultural dialogue is presented as increasingly essential, according to organizers.
