OLACDE Chief Declares Algeria a “Pivotal Country” in Global Energy Agenda

The Executive Secretary of the Latin American and Caribbean Energy Organization (OLACDE), Andrés Rebolledo Smitmans, highlighted Tuesday the organization’s interest in strengthening cooperation with Algeria, describing it as a “pivotal country in the global energy agenda.”

In a press statement following the audience granted to him by the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Smitmans said that his meeting with the President of the Republic was “important and productive,” expressing his satisfaction at “energy cooperation between Latin America and the Caribbean and Algeria.” “We are confident that we have vast areas for cooperation together. Algeria has been an observer member of our organization for 25 years, and today we discussed several opportunities within an energy agenda marked by challenges and instability,” considering Algeria to be a “pivotal country in the global energy agenda.”

Andrés Rebolledo Smitmans noted that energy security is “a key element in this regard, given that natural gas is an energy source that provides stability to electricity markets, and remains a central element in cooperation between Latin America and the Caribbean and Algeria.” He described bilateral cooperation as “very fruitful” in the field of new technologies, particularly green hydrogen and energy storage in electricity markets, areas in which “we can move forward together.” He emphasized the interest of the organization, which comprises 27 countries, in “advancing cooperation with countries of the South.”
