ALGIERS – The Algerian company Sonatrach signed on Tuesday a Memorandum of Understanding with Sonidep of Niger, paving the path for cooperation opportunities between the two countries.
A statement from Sonatrach indicated that the signed Memorandum of Understanding with Sonidep will allow both companies to discuss cooperation opportunities in the areas of hydrocarbon exploration and production, refining and petrochemistry, as well as the marketing and distribution of petroleum products.
The statement noted that signing this memorandum reflects Sonatrach’s ambition to develop and enhance partnerships with companies in Niger through joint exchange programs, particularly those related to specialised training. This step reflects both countries’ endeavour to promote and advance their bilateral relations.
The signing ceremony took place during a meeting between the CEO of Sonatrach, Rashid Hachichi, and the Minister of Petroleum of the Republic of Niger, Sahabi Oumarou, who has been on a working visit to Algeria from September 28 until tomorrow, Wednesday, accompanied by a high-level delegation including several officials and representatives from the Prime Ministry and the hydrocarbons sector of Niger, as well as the National Petroleum Company, Sonidep.
During this meeting, the two sides discussed opportunities to strengthen their existing cooperation, particularly in the hydrocarbons sector through the research and exploration project that Sonatrach is conducting in the “Kafra Block” oil field in northern Niger, which is making notable progress.
The two sides also discussed ways to exchange expertise in various areas related to the hydrocarbon value chain, especially with regard to refining and petrochemistry, as well as enhancing cooperation in training and capacity building.
