Oil, Mining Partnerships at Heart of Chadian Petroleum Minister’s Algeria Visit

“Discussing cooperation opportunities and strengthening partnership relations in the hydrocarbons and mining sectors” between Algeria and Chad will be the most important aspects that will mark the visit of the Minister of Petroleum, Mines and Geology of Chad, Ndolenodji Alixe Naimbaye, to Algeria, at the invitation of the Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, according to a statement by the ministry.

Accompanying the Minister is a delegation of officials and senior executives from key institutions, including the Chadian Hydrocarbons Company (SHT), the Tchad Petroleum Company (TPC), and the Chadian National Mining and Marketing Company (SONEMIC).

The same source further said that the visit, scheduled to run through Thursday, underscores “a shared will to open new avenues for developing bilateral cooperation.” This relation has seen growing momentum in recent years, driven by reciprocal visits between high-ranking officials from both countries.

The statement added that this serves to “reaffirm the deep brotherly ties and solidarity between Algeria and Chad, and to consolidate the joint political will to strengthen and expand cooperation.” It also represents as a follow-up to “the visit by Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Deby to Algeria in September 2025. During that trip, leaders from both countries reiterated their strategic commitment to bolstering cooperation, particularly in the hydrocarbons and mining sectors.” The agenda for the visit includes official meetings and field visits, notably a meeting with the Minister of State and Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, as well as a working session with the Secretary of State to the Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, in charge of Mines, Karima Bekir Tafer.

The Chadian delegation is also scheduled to hold discussions with officials from the Sonatrach and Sonarem groups. Additionally, the agenda includes visits to various energy facilities and sector-affiliated training institutes.

These visits are designed to provide insights into the Algerian experience and to bolster technical and institutional cooperation between the two countries.
