Manchester United Edges Bodo/Glimt, Tottenham Held by Roma in Europa League Drama

Manchester United secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Bodo/Glimt in their Europa League clash on Thursday, overcoming an early scare in a thrilling encounter. The match, held at Old Trafford, marked United’s first home game under new manager Ruben Amorim. Meanwhile, Tottenham was held to a 2-2 draw by Roma after conceding a late equalizer.
United took the lead within the first minute as Alejandro Garnacho capitalized on a defensive error by Bodo/Glimt goalkeeper Nikita Haikin. However, the Norwegian side responded swiftly with two quick goals. Hakon Evjen’s stunning strike from outside the box in the 19th minute and Philip Zinckernagel’s clinical finish four minutes later gave the visitors a 2-1 advantage.
Rasmus Hojlund brought United level just before halftime, converting a precise cross from Noussair Mazraoui. Five minutes into the second half, Hojlund struck again, finishing off a well-placed pass from Manuel Ugarte. Despite late pressure from Bodo/Glimt, United held on, earning their first win under Amorim, who praised his team’s resilience:
“The players did a great job. They fought hard and executed well, considering the limited time we’ve had together,” Amorim said.
Elsewhere, Tottenham endured frustration as Roma’s Mats Hummels scored a stoppage-time equalizer. Spurs had twice taken the lead, first through a Son Heung-min penalty and later with a Brennan Johnson strike. However, a resilient Roma, driven by Paulo Dybala’s creativity, managed to claw back each time, leaving Tottenham with a point.
In other matches, Lazio missed the chance to extend their lead atop the group standings, drawing 0-0 with Ludogorets in a game dominated by the Italian side. Athletic Bilbao eased past Elfsborg 3-0, while Eintracht Frankfurt beat Midtjylland to join Lazio and Bilbao on 13 points.
Meanwhile, Olympique Lyon cruised to a 4-1 victory over Qarabag, with Georges Mikautadze netting twice. Anderlecht and Galatasaray both drew, maintaining their strong positions in the group. Elsewhere, Maccabi Tel Aviv claimed their first win, defeating Besiktas 3-1 in a match relocated to Hungary due to security concerns.
The evening’s results set the stage for a fiercely competitive conclusion to the group stage, with several teams still vying for knockout round spots.
