Kremlin welcomes “balanced” US stance on Russia-Ukraine conflict

The Kremlin on Tuesday welcomed what it described as a much more balanced U.S. stance on Ukraine after the United Nations Security Council on Monday adopted a U.S.-drafted resolution that took a neutral position on the conflict.
“We see that the United States is taking a much more balanced position, which really helps the efforts aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters, adding that such a stance “indicates a sincere commitment to contributing to a settlement.”
The UN Security Council adopted a U.S.-drafted resolution that takes a neutral position on the Russia-Ukraine conflict as President Trump seeks to broker an end to the war.
The resolution mourns the loss of life in the “Russia-Ukraine conflict,” reiterating the U.N.’s purpose to maintain international peace and security and peacefully settle disputes, and urges a swift end to the conflict and a lasting peace.
The Security Council adopted the resolution with 10 votes in favour, while France, Britain, Denmark, Greece, and Slovenia abstained. Meanwhile, Russia voted in favour after failing to amend it.
In this regard, Peskov commented that statements coming from Brussels “do not currently indicate a sense of balance.”
“However, it is possible that following discussions between Europeans and Americans, there may be a greater inclination towards achieving balance in Europe,” he added.
