Kremlin Warns Macron’s Nuclear Jet Proposal Threatens Europe’s Stability

The Kremlin has cautioned that the proliferation of nuclear weapons in Europe would undermine the continent’s security and stability. Spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the remarks Tuesday in response to French President Emmanuel Macron’s proposal to potentially deploy French jets armed with nuclear weapons in other European countries.

“The proliferation of nuclear weapons on the European continent is something that won’t contribute to security, predictability and stability,” Peskov told reporters, adding that the entire system of strategic stability is already in a “deplorable state.”

Macron had earlier expressed willingness to discuss deploying France’s nuclear-capable aircraft within the EU, under three conditions : France would not fund the security of others, such deployment must not compromise French national security, and all final decisions would remain under presidential control.
