Heavy Rains Worsen Gaza Crisis Amid Occupation’s Ceasefire Violations and Aid Blockade

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said that the rains are exacerbating the already dire situation in the Gaza Strip, with families seeking refuge wherever they can find shelter, including makeshift tents.

“Winter rains in Gaza are making conditions even more desperate. Families taking shelter anywhere they can, including in makeshift tents,” UNRWA said in a statement on Saturday.

“Shelter supplies are urgently needed in Gaza, and we have them available. We urge permission to deliver them to the population,” the statement said.

The agency warned that the current storm affecting the Gaza Strip will have catastrophic consequences for displaced people there.

According to Gaza Civil Defense, dozens of tents sheltering displaced Palestinians were flooded in Al-Mawasi in the southern city of Khan Younis.

Since early Friday, a low-pressure system bringing a cold air mass and heavy rainfall has swept across the Gaza Strip, deepening the suffering of 1.5 million displaced civilians in the war-torn enclave.

Meanwhile, the Zionist occupation continues to block the entry of shelter materials, including tents and mobile homes, in violation of obligations outlined in the ceasefire agreement that went into effect on Oct. 10.
