Borrell Calls for 3-Day Ceasefire in Gaza to Vaccinate Children

Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, called on Tuesday for a three-day humanitarian ceasefire to enable the vaccination of children against polio in the Gaza Strip.
In a message posted on X, Borrell emphasized that “The quick spread of polio threatens all children in Gaza, already weakened by displacement, deprivation and malnourishment.”
He urged for “an immediate 3-day humanitarian ceasefire to enable vaccination by WHO and UNICEF – independent of wider negotiations. Our humanity demands it.”
It is important to note that the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced last Sunday the arrival of polio vaccines and called for pressure to be exerted on the Zionist authorities to permit these vaccines into Gaza.
On August 23, Stéphane Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, stated that hygiene issues in Gaza had reached critical levels due to water and sanitation problems, with a case of polio detected in the region for the first time in 25 years.
Since October 7, the Zionist entity has been engaged in a devastating military campaign against Gaza, resulting in over 134,000 deaths and injuries, primarily among children and women, with more than 10,000 individuals reported missing amid widespread destruction and severe famine.
