Biography of Algeria’s Presidential Election Candidate Abdelmadjid Tebboune

Abdelmadjid Tebboune is one of the most prominent political figures in Algeria and the president of the country from 2019 to 2024, having won the presidential election in December 2019. Tebboune was born on November 17, 1945, in Mécheria in Naâma Province (Wilaya). He graduated from the National School of Administration in 1969, specializing in economics and finance, which laid the foundation for his long and distinguished career in public service.
Tebboune began his career as a government official in various ministries and government positions, holding roles such as Governor (Wali) in several Algerian provinces (Wilayas) and Chief of Staff, which provided him with extensive experience in local administration and governance.
Tebboune’s prominence on the national stage increased when he was appointed Deputy Minister for Local Government in 1991. He later served as Minister of Communication and Culture and held the position of Minister of Housing and Urban Development multiple times throughout his career. In 2017, Abdelmadjid Tebboune was appointed Prime Minister, a position he held briefly.
In December 2019, Abdelmadjid Tebboune won the presidential election by 58.13%, becoming the eighth president of Algeria.
