Australian Journalist Wins Unlawful Termination Case Over Gaza Post, Awarded $70,000

CANBERRA –  Australian journalist Antoinette Lattouf has won her unlawful dismissal case against the public broadcaster ABC and was awarded AUD $70,000 (approximately $45,500), local media reported Wednesday. The Federal Court ruled that ABC breached the Fair Work Act by terminating Lattouf’s employment partly due to her political views, including her opposition to Zionist aggression on Gaza.

Lattouf, a Lebanese-Australian journalist, was hired for a five-day role in December 2023 but was dismissed just three days in after she shared a Human Rights Watch post on Instagram. The post reported that Zionist forces were using starvation as a weapon of war in Gaza—an accusation supported by an HRW study. ABC argued that the post violated its editorial guidelines, but the court found the dismissal unlawful.

Lattouf argued her firing was politically and racially motivated, and the result of pressure from pro-Zionist lobby groups. The case comes amid growing international condemnation of Zionist crimes in Gaza, where over 56,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed since October 2023. The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Zionist officials, and the International Court of Justice is investigating the Zionist entity for genocide.
