Araqchi Signals Readiness for “Win-Win” Nuclear Deal With United States Amid Rising Tensions

Abbas Araqchi said Iran is prepared to pursue a “win-win” diplomatic agreement with the United States over its nuclear program, emphasizing that diplomacy remains the only viable path despite Washington’s major military buildup in the region. In an interview aired Sunday on Face the Nation, Araqchi confirmed that Iranian and US officials are expected to meet in Geneva later this week to continue negotiations focused exclusively on nuclear issues.

Araqchi stressed that Tehran seeks a solution accommodating the concerns of both sides and said a draft proposal is being prepared ahead of the talks. He expressed optimism about reaching a swift agreement, noting that Iran’s nuclear program has advanced since the 2015 deal and that a new accord could surpass the previous framework. He also rejected calls from some US lawmakers for zero uranium enrichment, describing enrichment as Iran’s right under international agreements.

The Iranian minister reiterated that Tehran’s nuclear program is peaceful and said the country remains committed to the International Atomic Energy Agency and the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. He indicated that Iran is prepared to cooperate with international inspectors and may accept additional monitoring mechanisms under certain conditions.

Araqchi warned that military pressure would not force concessions, asserting that Iran would defend itself against any attack. While underscoring that Tehran does not seek conflict, he said US military bases in the region could become targets if hostilities erupt, framing such actions as legitimate self-defense.

The comments come as Donald Trump has expressed a preference for a diplomatic resolution while maintaining pressure on Tehran, setting the stage for closely watched negotiations between the two sides in the coming days.
