Algeria’s Tamanrasset Hosts 1st International Cultural Festival of Southern Music

The inaugural edition of the International Cultural Festival of Southern Music opened on Tuesday evening in Tamanrasset (1970 km south of Algiers), with the participation of a host of national and international artists.
The event’s opening ceremony was held in a festive atmosphere, in the presence of local officials and a representative of the Ministry of Culture and Arts, featuring an artistic show at the House of Culture of Tamanrasset.
According to the festival director, Abdelhamid Bouhala, the event’s program includes, in its academic component, presentations on the use of Algerian music in theatrical and cinematographic works, as well as on the role of southern music in promoting national identity through tourism-related activities.
Training workshops are also planned for participants, under the supervision of executives from specialized arts institutes, he added.
Running until next Sunday, this cultural event also provides a space for cultural exchange and showcases the various musical genres of southern Algeria, Bouhala emphasized.
